Directions

From Velden, we go along the R4a cycle path towards Bäckerteich and football stadium. Following hiking trail number 4, it goes to the Drava, Carinthia's largest river. Following the course of the Drava, the route goes on the Drava cycle path towards Villach. A special highlight is the Föderlach nature reserve, a shallow water biotope, which serves as an important resting place for numerous birds on their migration through Carinthia. At the Föderlach viewing and birdwatching point, we take a short break and have the opportunity to observe various birds. At Graschitz, we cross the Drava and hike over the Bogenfeld - past some of the typical wayside shrines for this region. On the left side, the entrance to the small valley "Türkei" can be seen, whose name derives from the fact that there was once a Turkish military camp there. Then it goes over the small village of Bogenfeld up to Egg, past the well-known Egger Martel and from there further to Drobollach. Following the shore of the Faaker See, we hike through the village and further along the Drobollacher Moor nature reserve to Faak am See. The path takes us past the beautifully situated church of Faak and from there through the village to the train station. Now we follow the Faaker See street, cross the heavily trafficked federal road and reach the Ratnitz settlement. There we turn right towards Pogöriach, from where our ascent to the Finkenstein castle ruins begins. After a fairly straight forest path uphill, we reach the castle ruins. Here we are rewarded with a wonderful view of the surrounding mountain landscape and the turquoise-shining Faaker See. Along a trail - past the local chapel - we reach the Baumgartnerhof - the destination of our stage today.

This stage also partly follows the Way of St. James - look out for the scallop shell sign near the wayside shrine in Egg am Faaker See.
