The market town of Schiefling am Wörthersee is located to the east of the spa town of Velden and borders Lake Wörthersee in the south with a length of about 4 km and flows directly into the Keutschacher Seental.

The most prominent geographical point of the community is the steep and tree-covered Kathreinkogel, which stands isolated in the western area of the community at an altitude of 772 meters. A settlement dating back to 1200 B.C. was uncovered on the historically significant Kogel and is currently considered to be the oldest excavated settlement in the entire Eastern Alps. The finds extend from the Neolithic period through the Bronze Age to late antiquity. A museum - built over a cistern with a capacity of 80,000 liters - informatively brings to light many details of the past times.
